The Flowers

There once was a time, a long time ago
A Garden existed where Flowers would grow
Flowers of happiness, Flowers of peace
Flowers of beauty that never would cease
People would tend them with tender hands True
And reap all the Love that the Sweet Blossoms grew

But up to the Garden walked One Who Would Mow
Down all the Flowers and crush them below
Yet clever was he, and smarter than most
Before he did mow them, he ventured to boast
"I can do more for you than these old weeds
You tend to daily on hands and on knees
I can give Knowledge and Wisdom and Riches!
I can give Light Bulbs and turn on the Switches!
I can give all of these wonders and more
Just let me mow these weeds down to the floor"

All of the people said "No, never, sir!"
They foresaw all of the trouble he stirred
But there was one there who wondered aloud
"Were there more answers than those of this crowd?"

So after all of them fell fast asleep
She left her warm bed and gently did creep
Out to the Place where the One Who Would Mow
Stood in the mist with his Mower in tow
When she had swung the Great Gate open wide
The One Who Would Mow moved his Mower inside
Before you could blink he had done his Dark Deed
And all of the Flowers lie cut without seed

The people awoke and they cried and they cried
For want of the beauty that somehow had died
So we lost the Garden that day long ago
Where Flowers existed and we helped them grow
But one day the Flowers will surely return
When Love is the reason for all that we yearn
